All seniors have the right to wind in their hair. We have a plan and you can help. Cycling Without Age is a way to help us get residents back into the community and experience the outdoors. It originated in Copenhagen, Denmark, by Ole Kassow, an avid cyclist who rented a rickshaw and went to his neighboring skilled nursing facility to give a resident a ride. It quickly flourished and became an international movement. Now it's time for us to join the movement and bring the joy of cycling to our residents.
The Lasata Senior Living Campus, along with community support, is going to provide these missed experiences to residents of the campus. As an official chapter of Cycling Without Age in Cedarburg, Lasata has purchased two rickshaws to provide such experiences to its residents of their senior living community. Excitement already abounds by residents, and numerous “pilots” of the bikes by community; members of all ages who will provide the pedal power for such excursions. Furthermore, the five guiding principles of Cycling Without Age will be pledged right here on the Lasata Campus with its senior riders: Generosity, Slow Cycling, Storytelling, Relationships, and Without Age.
To help us meet our goal of providing two rickshaws for the beginning of the spring 2016 cycling season, an in-kind donation or sponsorship would be greatly appreciated. One rickshaw alone costs $6,300 and is custom designed and manufactured to meet the physical needs of senior passengers. Other anticipated costs include bike helmets and reflective jackets for the safety of our volunteer “pilots” and seniors as well as ongoing maintenance. Our goal is $15,000! The Lasata Senior Living Campus is owned by Ozaukee County and is government tax exempt, so your generous contribution is tax deductible.
